Ellie is a star of Blades Reg 1 and Prem teams, played for the England Roses U17s and until the end of the 2020 season was co-captain of  Surrey Storm U21s team. This season she is at University in Birmingham and has moved to Wasps.

"I have gained so much confidence through netball – I used to be really shy and anxious, but now I approach situations differently have learnt life skills such as cooking, independence and making friends with new people.

Balancing a degree with netball is challenging, but I have learnt to manage my time effectively. It has its ups and downs but I love combining academic learning with the physical challenge that performance netball brings."

Evelyn

Evelyn joined WPBlades in the 2017-2018 season as part of the U16 Nationals team and is now a regular in the Prem squad, a Northern Ireland international and a member of the London Pulse U21 squad.

A talented musician, Evelyn has had to make some tough choices, not least between her love of music and her love of Netball.

Her advice for young players is to always look for the rainbows and the stars: "Don't let anything hold you back; fight for what you want everyday and always keep your options open while enjoying every moment. My mum once told me to “look for the rainbows when it rains and the stars when its dark as they are always there” – she couldn’t be more right!"

The Andrews Family
The Andrews Family

Between them Sally Andrews and her daughter Michelle have been with Weston Park Blades for over 70 years. Sally now coaches the U11s while Michelle plays for the Regional Div 2 team and coaches with the U13s.

Sally message for players is "you only get out what you put in. To improve you have to train and work hard, and give everything you have in every game" while Michelle says "I would always say to any netballer that we do it because we enjoy playing, so put in the work, enjoy your netball & remember you wouldn’t be in the squad if you weren’t good enough!"

Jayda's first love was Gymnastics and tumbling until she started playing Netball, first at school and then at Weston Park. As an U14 she had to make a tough choice between her two loves; luckily for WPBlades she chose Netball. Twice awarded the club's "Star Defender" title, at just 16 years old Jayda is a regular in the Prem team, part of London Pulse's U19 and U21 squads and a member of the England Roses Academy Long Squad.

Lucy spend 15 months of hard work recovering from an horrific injury, but she is now playing again and last month Storm once again selected Lucy as a Superleague Training Partner.

Lucy drew strength from her club:  "Blades became my netball-family support, where I got to stay connected with my team ... without the support from my team and everyone at WPBlades my rehab journey would have been a hundred times harder!"

Michelle was introduced to Netball at a very young age watching her mother Sally play. She started playing at school and joined Weston Park Blades at the age of 9. Michelle played in Weston's first team in the National Premier League for many years and was part of the team that won the U23 Nationals. Michelle currently plays for the Regional Div 2 side and coaches the U13s. She's been with Blades for over 30 years.

"Competing in 2 different sports throughout the years has had its challenges, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Deep down, I know one day I am going to have to make a decision on which sport I am going to pursue further in the future but at the moment I am going to carry on enjoying both sports for as long as possible."
